Women are God’s Khalifa on earth too!
Unfortunately, Muslim women who engage in successful careers are usually psychologically harassed with questions about their assumed neglect of their so-called God-given responsibilities. While all men are praised for their professional success, women’s professional achievements are seldom celebrated. However, according to the Qur’an, which does not authorize any gender roles those hard-working women are in fact more faithful to God’s plans. Because in the Qur’an humans, both men and women, are created for a reason and to fulfill a divine mission on earth as we read in (Q. 2:30)
(I will make upon the earth a successive authority)
Women are not created to be bystanders in this divine assignment as God’s own (Khalifa) or vicegerent on earth! Rather, they have- just like men- active roles. Yes. Motherhood is a sacred role, but the same way fatherhood is! However, motherhood and fatherhood are only one role among so many roles man and women could play during their lifetime. Advocating for women’s’ biological role as an excuse to exclude them from any serious professional and self- fulfilling endeavor or restricting their work to economic hardship involves an undeniable sexism. This view dehumanizes women by excluding them from the reason Qur’an mentioned as a justification for our own existence on earth as God’s own successors.
Women just like men are God’s own (Khalifa) on earth too!
